Drunk Words, Sober Thoughts

We've all heard the phrase "Drunk words are sober thoughts", but is it true? And if so, what does it really mean?

According to national statistics, over 50% of women and 70% of men have had at least one drink (sometimes that's all it takes), and over 25% of women, 43% of men are guilty of binge drinking at least once. People drink. The majority drink and text.

Everyone that drinks has sent one of those texts while in a lovely liquor fog, and whether you drink or not, you've definitely received one of those texts. Most of the time when we get them, we blow them off, writing them off as nothing more than what they are...a drunk text. This is usually because the time of said incoming text was between 12am-4am, aka the danger zone. Don't scrunch up your face. Be honest. There's a certain stigma that comes with texts received during those hours.
But danger zone timing or not, those texts probably make you think for at least a few seconds...is this really how they feel?? And on the flip side, if you're the sender of said suspect texts, you probably read what you sent the next day with the yikes face...

Commence re-con mode!! Either you, as the sender, hope the recipient brushes your text off as a "drunk incident" and it's never spoken of, or you go bold and ask them if they got your text from the night before. Depending on your relationship, history and state of mind, you may or may not opt to go this route. But maybe you wake up (possibly still tipsy) with an "It's time" type of attitude and go for it, just hoping for the best. What's the worst that can happen anyway? You get called crazy, everyone laughs it off and you move on. Seems like a tiny bump in the road.

But you could unintentionally hurt someone, or tell them something way "too soon". That's the risk you decided you were willing to take when you decided to start drinking with your phone in hand. Then again, the things you confessed to while in a drunken haze may be things you didn't have the balls to say sober. Now that it's out, you can take a deep breath and move on. It may lead to something great.

I asked a few people who have umm...at one time or another...been the shooters behind the drunken text gun what percentage of their drunk texts were honest. All but one put the number between 95%-100%. The only one that didn't (after claiming the "I don't know" response) placed the number upwards of 80%.

The bottom line: when it comes to drunk texts, ALL of it is sheer honesty.

My advice: If you know it's in you, make sure your phone is dead before you get too drunk. Not off, because well all you have to do is turn it back on. That's just as possible drunk as it is sober...Unless of course you really want someone to know something and don't really care if it gets told in a "drunken" text. After all, you can always blame it on the alcohol if their response isn't what you hoped for.

Either way, it's the holidays and the end of the year. I say go for it.

Until next time lovers,

Peace, love and honest drunk texts
